Description
In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s Maoist rebels waged a guerrilla war to overthrow Nepal’s monarchy. In 2002 the government launched a major offensive against them. We went to Nepal to see the situation. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the conflict. Months earlier peace negotiations with the rebels broke down and the army joined the police and a special armed constabulary in battling the rebels. Very little was known about the conflict because of the suspension of freedom of the press under a state of emergency. We obtained rare footage of the rebels and looked at the effects of the war on the Nepalese people.
