Description
After nearly disappearing from much of the world, the measles virus is on the rise.
This program journeys to Tajikistan, where the collapse of the health care system established under Soviet rule led to a hiatus in disease vaccination.
With measles now threatening children across the country, the Tajik government has launched a new vaccination campaign in partnership with UNICEF.
The video follows mobile teams as they prepare for and perform large-scale injection operations in hard-to-reach villages; it also explores new research currently under way in England, led by Dr. David Brown of the Health Protection Agency, that will produce a more efficient, inhalant-based vaccine.
This film is part of the KILL OR CURE series of 57 x 25-minute documentaries produced for the BBC. These films can be bought individually or as a series.
