Description
For the first time since the USA invaded Afghanistan in 2001, the Taliban regime gave journalists the opportunity to check its claims that a US missile went fatally astray in Khorum in eastern Afghanistan.
They were accompanied by Taliban minders and taken to Jalalabad and Khorum. In Khorum they found a village completely destroyed by a US missile and the villagers digging amongst the ruins for the remains of their loved ones.
One man lost all 5 of his children and was digging up the remains of his wife – whose body was in pieces. We then visited the local hospital which was treating the wounded with little medicine.
There were no signs of a military base near the village.
