The city of Taloqan in north-eastern Afghanistan is struggling to recover from the destruction of a quarter of a century of war. The women of Taloqan also have to deal with the fact that Afghanistan has the worst rate of maternal mortality in the world. Afghan women must get their husband’s permission to visit a doctor – a permission that is often denied. In this stunning documentary we see one pregnant woman’s journey from her local village – two days donkey ride away from the nearest hospital. After finally arriving there she is lucky enough to be able to see a female doctor who helps with her very severe problems. It’s a story of highs and lows and about how much needs to be done for the women of Afghanistan.
