In 1979, China conceived its now infamous one child policy with the aim of reducing the country’s population growth. Some decried it as inhumane and an abuse of human rights. Others praised it for being responsible.
One thing is for sure though – the one child policy has been misunderstood outside and even inside China.
Now, more than a generation on from its inception – the policy is entering a new phase. We went to China find out what’s happening now.
