A report on crime and punishment in China and how they deal with it. Where-ever in the world the death penalty exists, there is debate and controversy.
Chinese courts hand down more death sentences than anywhere else – over one thousand executions a year. But as elsewhere, critics say that does not deter crime. And too often the innocent are found guilty of crimes they did not commit.
As we see in this report, many poor people in China believe that their loved ones have been accused of crimes they did not commit. As they have very little money they are unable to help them by hiring a lawyer who can adequately defend them.
