Description
This film made for the BBC gives viewers an interesting look at the state of Somalia in 1998 – a short time after the failed US invasion of the country. The president of the country, Hussein Ideed cuts an unlikely figure for this place in his smart blue shirt and well-tailored trousers. He’s come to pay his respect to his father General Ideed who died of wounds a month ago. No westerner has seen the grave before – even to be here without the protection of the dead general’s son would be extremely dangerous for us. But Hussein Ideed is as different here as his Californian upbringing and his American citizenship could make him and he’s only 31. He’s had little personal experience in the murderous politics of Somalia and this in a place where age and experience count. He thinks it’s time to change that.
