Description
Robotic Surgery is transforming modern medicine. Large movements of the surgeons hands in the operating theatre translate into very small movements of the robotic instruments. It is less tiring for the surgeons and for the patient, it means less scarring, a quicker recovery and reduced risk of infection.
It is cutting edge medicine. Robotic arms – including a powerful camera – are slid into the patient through small incisions. At the end of the arms are the surgeon’s tools. In this film we see surgeons testing out the use of medical scans projected over what the surgeon can actually see. It is among the latest, most pioneering work of its kind. They call it augmented reality.
By combining robotic surgery with other technologies, such as scans and advanced imaging, it is about to get even better.
